Established in 1949 by Bernard Gantmacher, GANT started is humble beginnings in Brooklyn New York.
Bernard came to New York as a boy from the Ukraine in 1907 in search of the American dream. He started working in factories sewing and in the 1920's started as a shirt maker in Brooklyn. He eventually made the move to New Haven, a town synonymous with making quality shirts and where the Ivy League look became so popular.
After the second world war Bernard's sons, Marty and Elliott saw that the world had changed and that people were looking for new fashions, styles and tastes. Following on with their fathers entrepreneurial spirit they convinced Bernard to move into large scale production of their quality garments. The GANT shirts were an instant success and GANT as we know it today was born.
