They invented the blue jean!
Way back in 1853 a guy called Levis Stauss moved from Bavaria to San Francisco during the gold rush and opened up a dry good business called Levis Strauss & Co. In 1872 he teamed up with another guy, Jacob Davis, a tailer from Reno Nevada and together they came up with riveted work wear for strength.
In 1873 the blue jean was born after Levis & Jacobs had there US patent granted on the 20th May. The original “true blue” jean was now a reality and the “XX” as they were called was already bound for worldwide notoriety. Later in 1886 the famous two horse label became the official brand of Levis and is still used today. The logo was first used on the leather patch of the “XX” jeans and in 1890 the “XX” was given it’s first lot number, 501®.
